Did you know that INOSIM has been involved in academic teaching for 15 years now? Regular lectures, seminars, and exercises at renowned universities with our participation have since become established in Germany and Europe. Learn how and where INOSIM is represented in education and training.
Learning INOSIM during education brings advanced knowledge to students
TU Dortmund University
At TU Dortmund University (Germany), we have been regularly taking on teaching assignments in Bioprocess Simulation since 2010. Currently, the lecturer, together with our former colleague Dr. Katrin Brandt, is INOSIM Head Of Consulting Dominik Aubel. In the course, students build a complex simulation model with a component balance. Several former participants have enjoyed this topic so much that we can now welcome them as colleagues in the INOSIM Consulting team.
INOSIM is also represented at TU Dortmund University (BCI) with the lecture Logistics Of Chemical Production Processes, led by Dominik Bleidorn and Engelbert Pasielka. Students here learn how to use the INOSIM Software as an example of discrete-event simulation (DES) and complete several exercises with the software.
Hamburg, Nuremberg, and Bochum
At the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg (Germany), for two years Dr.-Ing. Jürgen Fitschen (Boehringer Ingelheim) has been leading the course Introduction to Model-Based Industrial Process Development for Biopharmaceuticals. It is a master’s course in which students use INOSIM Insight Software in a project work. The focus is on biopharmaceutical processes, reactor design, and regulatory conditions.
Professor Dr. Stefan Hubert (formerly of Bayer) is establishing a course on Artificial Intelligence In Process Engineering at TH Nuremberg (Germany), leading the students through various AI applications up to Reinforcement Learning (RL). Since Prof. Hubert has worked with INOSIM Insight Software in a research project with RL in the past, he will offer an introduction to INOSIM in this context. In the medium term, a separate course on event-discrete simulation is even planned.
In a cooperative project of Ruhr-Universität Bochum (Germany) and the University of Oulu in Finland, Dr. Maria Polyakova and her Finnish colleague introduced the Industrial Water and Wastewater Technologies course two years ago. Through contact in joint research projects, the idea arose to bring the importance of discrete-event simulation closer to students in a guest lecture by Dominik Aubel using an example. At the beginning of 2026, plans are underway to expand the course with a project work in which students will use the INOSIM Software themselves.
Outside Germany
At the University of Twente (Netherlands), for several years Prof. Dr. Meik Franke has been organizing a project work on batch process simulation. Students first learn about certain batch processes and then receive an introduction to the basics of the INOSIM Software with exercises. Subsequently, they model a pharmaceutical process in INOSIM in a group work to evaluate typical practical questions.
At the Vienna University of Technology (Austria), Thomas Maischberger (ZETA) and Dominik Aubel (INOSIM) gave a first guest lecture on the application of simulation in the planning of (bio)pharmaceutical processes in June 2025. Since they encountered high interest in practical experiences with the software, Thomas and Dominik currently are preparing a practical simulation project work together with the Vienna University of Technology.
In Copenhagen (Denmark), at the renowned Danish Technical University (DTU), Professor Jakob Kjøbsted Huusom has been supervising master’s students for years who write their final theses in cooperation with companies like Novo Nordisk and create simulation models with INOSIM. Currently, a part-time master’s program is being developed, in which students will learn about the application of our software in a special course.
And Your Alma Mater?
Do you think students at your university should learn about simulation with INOSIM? We offer a comprehensive license package for academic use and support you in setting up your courses with a concept, simulation model, and on–site expertise. Please feel free to contact us to discuss your ideas together.
Practical support for students
From the beginning, INOSIM has focused on actively promoting young talent to attract the best simulation talents. We regularly give students the opportunity to complete their internships, work-study programs, and academic theses in a challenging and exciting environment. Located almost on the campus of the Technical University of Dortmund, our location reflects the symbolic proximity to research and teaching.
Former students “of us” are now leading demanding consulting projects at INOSIM or working in international companies in Germany, Japan, India, or Mexico. For a year, two female students from India have been supporting our innovation department as talented junior developers. This summer, an intern from Slovakia began working in the simulation department at our partner company SIGMA in Dortmund. They all bring a fresh breeze and an international flair to our work and, in turn, benefit from qualified and uncomplicated support in a highly innovative company.
